Variegated Ponytail

Really full garden

Recommended Posts

I recently rediscovered this plant in my garden. It had been overwhelmed by masses of Aechmea blanchetiana.

I am not a big fan of most variegated plants but this one is really nice. I might do a little grooming to show some of the trunks.

All kidding aside Scott, that is the most impressive specimen of a variegated Beucarnea (Nolina?) I've seen.

I have had it for about 18yrs, it lived in a pot for 11yrs and I planted it out when I moved 7 yrs ago. It is hard to tell from the photo but its about four feet tall now.

There is (hopefully still) a nice plant of this at Mounts BG in West Palm Beach. Haven't been there for a few years, but it was probably 4-5' tall when last I saw it. Very impressive for a variegated form, IMHO.

SoCal and SoFla; zone varies by location.

It has grown to be over 3 meters. It has recently sprouted a third trunk.

My garden is in Guatemala at about 800 meters above sea level. Very high rainfall in porous volcanic loam.

A perfect solution is to send it to me... I would gladly take it off your hands :greenthumb:

Seriously, that's a gorgeous plant, and I hope I didn't ruin it in your mind with my silliness.  Enjoy your Wigs on a Stand, Heads on a Stick, amazingly beautiful variegated ponytails!
