Introducing Terry the Galah our lastest house bird. He was surrendered to a veterinary clinic in the Adelaide hills who got in contact with one of my friends who does wildlife rescue. I just happened to be visiting when the cockatoo arrived and on assessment this was not a wild bird. My friend was planning on just feeding the bird and releasing it to live with the resident flock. That plan had to be re-thought when it was obvious that this Galah was not going to be capable of living wild. I agreed to take him as he was supposed to be eating seeds. After a day at my house we relised that he wasn't eating any seed and was going backwards. We had to hand feed him with sloppy baby parrot mix, a few weeks on and he had weaned himself onto seed. Terry has become very cheeky and I'm trying to teach him that ears aren't for chewing. 20170129_133232.thumb.jpg.6b267586cb71c7

My profile picture features Mitch a Major Mitchell cockatoo who is very sweet and says 'hello' in a very posh voice every few years. She wistles and makes other parrot noises most of the time. Mitch has met Terry and didn't seem that fussed about him. Mitch lives in a large cage inside a shed that is open on one side. As Terry gets older we will most likely keep him in that shed too but won't keep these two birds in the same cage. I might, if I can find the cash, build a large flight aviary so they have space. The fear I have if I keep these two together is the possibility of hybridization. Major Mitchell cockatoos are threatened in the wild so hybridization would be frowned on and may jeopardize our native wildlife permit which is needed to keep the Major Mitchell.

He looks like a little squirt, can't be very old.I have been looking around for a bird for ages (since my Jasper died 12 months ago) but never seen to come across any. I still have the lorikeet........he gets more spiteful by the day. Now when I go to feed him, he flies out of the cage as I open it and attacks me. Naturally nobody else wants him, so it looks like he is here to stay.

I think my pet parrot is your parrots  Long long long long long lost distant cousin lol.  My parrot tells me when it's time to turn off the lights by saying night night.

Hahahahahahahahahahaha maybe very distant cousins.

This psycho pictured below was Peter Parrot a small billed Corrella (another locally abundant cockatoo) who was my my longest lived childhood pet. He was about 27 when he met his match in the form of a Red Fox. Was a terrible way to go but he was evil couldn't be handled unless you wanted to lose a finger. Peter would celebrate every time he caused someone to bleed! It's been two years without this blood thirsty character in my life. Mitch and Terry have much better personalities life without the blood bath in nice.
