A little baby Dypsis crinita with a pair of new leaves opening.  I have noted that it isn't very consistent in either the color or amount of coverage that the new leaves have in pink or red.  Some are completely pink, and other times the new leaves are a mix of green with a little bit of pink/red.  I still appreciate the color and am sure it will look more dramatic as the palm and new leaves get larger.

Some of them get long leaves and big!  Look at the frond hanging over the dirt drive and it's still not got any clean trunk

Wish I had more species of Dypsis! At the moment, I only own D. decipiens and D. lutescens.

Very late to this thread. :)  Just a couple of cuties... D. sainteluciei triple glowing in the dark, and D. canaliculata about to blast open a new frond, getting too big for the camera viewfinder. Kicking myself for accidentally deleting shots of my D. lastellianas finally showing several rings of trunk with amazing colors on the rings. :rage:

Beautiful shots Kim! If you haven't taken many new photos since deleting them, it may be possible to recover them. There are tools out there that can do that...

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

My small Dypsis decipiens has great color with red pinstriping.  The plant and the newest leaf which recently opened.  Today's favorite Dypsis, but it will likely change when the sun rises again.
