In about 2011, I noticed this Raphia australis growing alongside a pond in Matheson Hammock across from Fairchild Tropical Gardens. I've followed it over the years, and this is my first time seeing this monocarpic palm flower! I don't know how the seed arrived at this location, since they're rather large! I've never been able to make it to the base of this palm, since the undergrowth is too thick.
