C. Nubium - Can it be split?

I have this Chamaedorea Nubium that is doing very well.  It is about 12 tall'ish and 15 or so years old.

im wondering if this is tough enough to divide in half.  I figure running a sawz-all down the middle to make 2 trees.  Any experience out there?

thanks!  Jeff

I think you should try it.  We will all benefit from your experiment.  I predict some stem die-back , (most likely the tallest ones) but that both halves will survive. Won't you need to break this pot to extract the rootball ?

I moved a Chamaedorea hooperiana twice in less than a year with no ill effects.

Thank you Darold.  I do not think the palm is root bound.  Would try to salvage the pot.  I think I am going to give it a go once the warm days get here.  THANKS!!

If the plant is big enough, I would divide it in four! Than, every part can be placed in the middle of a container, and each plant can grow in all directions!

Yes, they can easily be divided when they're big enough. I am getting ready to split one of mine here in CA. I have had very small clumps taken off the edges of wild colonies establish within a year.
