This is an example of a hybrid purpurea. I have seen thicker ones but this one is nice for our climate.

This isn't the best photo as it's dark out now and this was already on my phone, so this is the best I can do right now. I have 3 Maximas, all about this size. This was the first to flower. It now has 2 flowers on it so I'll try to get an updated and better photo tomorrow.

In comparison to your other Archies? Bigger? Beefier?

I'd say it's about the same as all the others for me. I planted all of my archontophoenix around the same time from 5 and 15 gallon pots and they are all about the same height and beefiness.

Not at all impressive, but someone has to post a freaking picture! Here's one of mine last summer. I'd post a current photo but I am in NYC!

Hey Ben, how does your maxima do with low 30s? This year we had quite a few of those nights. I have a 5-gallon I'll be putting out front in full sun, which means it'll also have little to no overhead protection during winter.

It’s been my fastest growing palm. Planted 21 months ago as a 5 gallon. Was only about 2 feet tall at the top of the crownshaft and maybe 6 ft at top of the fronds. Crownshaft is now above a 6 ft block wall and the tallest fronds are about 12ft high.
