Congratulations on your banana!  To be honest I'm really surprised that Croatia has such a place like Dubrovnik.  I was like, bananas in Croatia?!  So I looked up Dubrovnik on Wikipedia and then looked at Croatia on a map.  I think it was the first time that I've ever really seen Croatia on a map.  Your country has a funny shape! :)

I'm really jealous that you get 40 inches of rain a year!  :/   Something needs to be done about rain inequality.  It's a real problem.  We need a fair redistribution of rain.

Are there any Tillandsias that can thrive in your place without any supplemental water?

Climate here is Mediterranean. We have enough rain during the fall, winter and spring. During the summer we can have some rain, but not enough for most of the plants ( only our native ones are ok ). Soo during the summer regular watering is necessary ( our summers are very hot during the day and night, soo water evaporates quickly ).

We will have to make new channels in river-size, actually create new rivers! A pharaonic task, but eventually the last hope for many areas around the globe. Spare money from weapons to make planet greener.

The climate here is Mediterranean too!  Several years ago it rained a lot more than usual.  I think we got around 20 inches of rain instead of our usual 12 inches.  In the front yard I noticed that a gazillion Aeonium seeds had germinated everywhere.  Plus, quite a few seeds from my Aloe thraskii also germinated.  The Aeonium made sense because they are native to a Mediterranean climate.  But the thraskii definitely isn't.  I guess it has a suitably wide range of growing temps.

Do you have any non-natives that naturally grow from seed (aka "volunteers")?

Yes, Lantana sp. are very invasive. Some palm species like Phoenix canariensis produce a lot of seedlings. Yucca, agava and different opuntia species are naturalized in my area ect..
