Pete,

I love Sri Lanka but I hope I'll be able to stay a visitor,
I like the european seasons too and wouldn't be so happy all the year in this tropical climate, it's too hot and wet!
good for Areca and friends :D

Philippe, I understand, youve chosen a cheap, hot, wet spot in the world to grow palms etc, and also since you "hate" the heat, that statement is evidence you dont do much of the gardening correct :) ?? Its cheaply maintained and planted when you point your finger where its to go while you sit down sipping local Fresh Tea, :)  and when your back in Switzerland , 1 maybe 3 gardeners are maintaining your abode  otherwise it would be overgrown with weeds.

Sorry if my rave sounds quite Tongue in Cheek   ((  speaking or writing in an ironic or insincere way.))   , but , If I was you , I'd be doing the same. bar sitting down sipping tea, Id be doing "ALL" the planting as I trust only myself :)

Pete, you'r right , but I also love the population and the very old culture of Sri Lanka and the history of the island which has been invaded by portuguese, dutch and british...
And I trust not only myself, but my friends family, the climate and the clouds, the wildlife and other surprises to help me to grow this collection in a land where Areca concinna and Caryota are terrible weeds, and Corypha self seeding intruders.

I'll put Sri lanka on my bucket list, and visit 1 day Philippe,  many folk fro Oz has chosen Sri lanka as their new "cheap"  holiday destination now Bali has been over commercialised   taken over, and accom has  become very very expensive in Ubud.

Fantastic Philippe. What cool little seeds, they almost look like small Pelagodoxa seeds.

Mine has been flowering for awhile, but no fruits yet.

Philippe, You are in a very small group that can say they have one of these rare palms AND that it's in seeding stage. Good for you. I hope you germinate them and spread them around. Also, if at one point you have enough seed, please offer them to others so that we can all grow these and get them out there. Excellent!!

Oh this one is still on my wish list for sure! Hope every seed germinates but so far you may have stumped the experts regarding germination advice?

What a gorgeous palm!!!

Finally, this Sommieria is setting seed. I cut one open and they look viable.

That is simply spectacular Tim! I love this palm that I first saw in the conservatory at Fairchild Tropical Gardens.

Yours looks picture perfect and I do hope every seed is viable. Still on my wish list, but doubt any are in PR.

I am so excited for you!

Thanks Cindy! Hopefully you will find some soon. Get the largest one you can as they are pretty slow growing.

Philippe, I've heard that the pinkish color means they are ripe. I'm waiting for mine to turn from light brown to the same color as yours.

I am truly jealous!

However I did manage to score a couple of seedlings this year so maybe one day I will see them seed.

You have a lovely happy palm!
