Fungus

Las Palmas Norte

Recommended Posts

I'm off to the nursery to have them recommend a fungicide. This nasty stuff has appeared on one of my T. fortune palms and extends about 2' up the trunk. I think what I'll do is strip all the old leaf bases and fiber off as well. We've had above average rainfall so this will spread if left unchecked. Here's what it looks like now. I'll post again when I attack this fungus with tools and fungicide.

Cheers, Barrie.

Barrie that is really weird looking, never seen that on a trachy before. BTW cinnamon spice will combat fungus also.

Heard of that cinnamon thing too Rodger. I've used it on seedling starts on the soil to prevent damping off.

Weird is right. I've never seen that either until now. It appears to be soil borne and I've spotted it in the nearby soil surface and on some of the PT wood used on the retaining wall. So what I did was strip all the effected areas off the trunk and spray with hydrogen peroxide. I treated the other surrounding areas with more of the same and also a copper wettable powder fungicide. It looks much better now and I'll will keep a close eye on this in the days / weeks ahead. It seemed to only have attacked the decaying non live plant material. Here's a few pics of my progress and the end result.

Cheers, Barrie.
