Floating seeds Beccariophoenix Alfredii

Recommended Posts

Hey,

I recently (yesterday) received my beccariophoenix seeds. So I thought it was a good idea to soak them before putting them in the ground to increase the germination rate. Out of all the seeds, only one sunk to he bottom, the rest of the seeds are still floating. Does this mean I only got one viable seed? I hope not... Does anybody has experience with beccariophoenix alfredii seeds or seeds who still germinated when they didn't sunk?

I can't say for 100% sure they are bad but floaters are normally not a good sign. Maybe some of the seed experts will chime in. Beccariophoenix alfredii are really not tough to germinate with fresh seed though.

I sowed 100 from RPS recently. I can't recall exactly but I thought they all sunk but also B.a. naturally is a riparian specialist isn't it ?, thus it may have floating seeds for dispersal reasons ?

cut a floater and see what's inside.

regards Kris

Hello there,

give them time to sink. Three days (or more) in water are definitely ok for them.

Got 14 seedlings out of 15 seeds...all are fine, two are already in the ground.

best regards
