Coastal San Diego... record breaking heat???

The winds feel like a blast furnace right now.  I left my office and went to check 1 of 3 thermometers in the yard.  I was shocked to see 102F and the thermometer is not facing the sun, and has a little shade from a palm, although its otherwise a very exposed area of the yard.  Curious I went to the one under my patio cover, it was 99F in the shade.  I went around to the third one which is in the shade, very low to the ground in an area that heats up the least in my yard..... 98F.  I don't remember ever seeing my thermometer's go over 100 here or in my previous home in the area.  I checked a couple of other nearby weather stations which are right on the beach (I'm a few streets back, but still close).  Solana Beach and Moonlight Beach (Encinitas), both reading 99F at 2:54pm.  Like most people in the area, we don't have air conditioning, just ceiling fans.  I'm sure glad all my plants got a good drink of water this morning!!!  It will be interesting to see if these are in fact records for these spots.  I will be surprised if they are not.

100F even at the beach.....wow.

And it was a good thing you did get water to the plants before the heat. Hope you have no damage.

No AC.....ouch.

Up by me (Laguna Hills), minimal winds but it got to 101F yesterday. Way to hot. However, I think we should be cooling off starting today.

All we can do is hold on for this ride.

It's really hard to believe how hot you guys got closer to the coast. We didn't even break 100 here. It was 97 yesterday and 94 the day before.

If I didn't have a record of it, I wouldn't have believed it either.  This thermometer is in a very exposed are, but still in shade and never faced the sun.  When I walked down to surf 20160926-104A4420.thumb.jpg.0cd1c488d2e7this morning, it was no cooler at the shore than at home.

At least you didn't hit 110 like I did earlier in the summer.

I guess I'm less surprised at 110 inland.  I went to high school in Escondido and remember Santa Ana's where temps would soar into the triple digits regularly as soon as Labor Day passed and we were back in school.  It was "normal" to see inland.  I have lived in Coastal Carlsbad and now Leucadia since the late 80's and never recall seeing a thermometer go as high as this one did yesterday.

103f here in Nor Cal yesterday, as well. Thankfully it's "cooled off" to 99f here today.

Too hot. Right?  I lived up the road from you in El Cerrito in the East Bay many years ago, and had an office in Pleasanton.  What I would wear during the summer was completely different when I went down to Pleasanton versus when I was at home or in my office in Oakland.  Always warmer once you went over the East Bay foothills.  Hopefully you will take another big drop tomorrow to more tolerable temps.  Our high today was 89, and we are seeing tropical storm clouds with a few big raindrops, but nothing that sticks.  Remnants of another tropical storm off Baja I presume.  Beautiful sunrise and sunset though!

Definitely too hot! The micro climates over the east bay hills this time if year are really stunning - temps in San Francisco in the mid 60's and we were pushing up against triple digits. But, nobody on this side of the bay is without AC either. I've watered the palms twice a day the last few days, just to keep them hydrated. We are forecasted to drop to 90f (thank god) tomorrow. Looking forward to the reprieve!
