Variegated Cycas debaoensis 4 - 5 inch caudex

Cycadosia

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I posted before about a big Cycas debaoensis, but here is the variegated plant, still pulling out new leaves.  Any sale then is a few weeks away, during which I will post new pictures of the plant in question.  The variegation is present on the old and new flushes.  I've had the plant for 4 or so years now, so I think the variegation is permanent.  It's a beautiful plant and the variegation is more subtle than just the typical run of the mill variegation.  You can let me know what you think.  I don't really know a price in mind yet, so I'll just say $5000 starting bid?  Let me know if you want more information.

$5000? Don't get me wrong it looks like a beautiful plant, but not worth $5000 in my opinion. But just like any rare plant or palm it's worth whatever someone will pay for it. Good luck on your sale.

Nice looking plant. Very hard to price uniqueness.

I did notice that with this plant and your previous post you seem to measure the size upright and not across.

Small cycads like that should be measured across to determine the caudex diameter until a real trunk has formed and the height is greater then the caudex diameter.

Thanks George for noting the caudex measurement. I saw that in the other thread but did not mention it...

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

Yes Alex, its almost like measuring a half buried baseball. The caudex will continue to widen at such time it decides to go vertical. You may want to remeasure as you make some people unhappy if you state its a 4-5" caudex and its a 3". Measure the average widest point of the "baseball". And yes you can check below the soil line as it often is bigger below.
