What's with these two DIFFERENT lehmannii?

The second one has spineless leaflets. Both are obviously hideous, but If I had to choose between the two, I like the one below...

Question: Is this simple variation within the species or is the difference some other reason?.. Thanks in advance--sorry you had to look at these things.

A few days ago I noticed two of my lehmanii show a similar trait and i took a few pics to ask the same question. Two lehmanii only have three of these spined leaflets, and only occur on the last 25%. I figured mine contains a trace of trispinosus or horridus, but yours looks like a hybrid for sure.

I agree that there could be some trispinosus in it. There are some varieties of trispinosus that have very few to no spines at all. (Spineless trispinosus). They look very similar to lemanii. The first pic does not look like a 100% lemanii
