One of the big casualties of the California drought are birches.

Took a walk through the hood and noted the real Death Camp.

Wow! didn't know those could grow there. I thought they needed a cold winter. Anyway, love the white birch.

Birches and bluegrass will both grow here.

But, that's a perfect example of: "just because you can, doesn't mean you should.

They are exactly the same over here. Silver  Birch do ok in moist locations at higher elevations but are very hit and miss on the plains. I remember browsing through a plant nursery and over hearing the reply of one of the nursery men to an enquiry about the tree. " Silver Birch, pretty gutless in Adelaide ". Still makes me laugh.
