Golden Showers in Chandler

Having been here in Chandler roughly 3, going on 4 months now, it is always interesting driving around town and stumbling upon some very unexpected surprises growing on here in the Desert. Sometimes those surprises are across town, or, tucked away on a side street just a couple blocks away from the house.

While i'd alluded to the possibility regarding the I.D. of it, i wanted to wait until i saw flowers to confirm. Still, i knew this was indeed one treasure of a find. I certainly haven't heard more than a whisper of this tree's presence here in Phoenix. Now full of flowers and seeming to laugh at the extreme 116-123F heat we have had lately, it was time to take a quick walk around the block to get an up close look. What id didn't realize until after passing the same home a couple times, is there are actually 3 trees, not just 1. There was also something else unexpected growing near this residence's mail Box.. Anyway..

While not as huge as specimens id drool over back in Florida, at least locally, it must not get cold enough to fatally injure these trees.

Nice finds. I suspect both will freeze during colder winters, I've seen both, along with Delonix regia in Palm Springs, Indio area occasionally.

Also, surprisingly, seen several Ficus benjamina, including one 25-footer, in San Francisco...

SoCal and SoFla; zone varies by location.

I'm not a fan of Golden Showers, but that one has managed well in the heat  .. Hot Golden Showers. ;)

Cheers, Barrie.
