Pineapple Plant

Does anyone have a pineapple plant(of any species) for sale or know where to buy one? I tried to grow one by cutting the top of a pineapple off but it ended up just rotting.

Several years ago, my Dad was growing pineapple plants from tops of ones bought at the store. Would clean it off, let the bottom sit in water until some roots are visible, then plant in ground. They would grow pretty well, and some actually stayed alive in ground through milder winters with protection from a blanket.

I've done it with success. I pull the center leaves at the store to make sure they stay intact and then I twist the top off. I strip a few of the bottom leaves off the base and allow the base to callous over before potting up in a well drained mix.

Los Angeles, CA and Myrtle Beach, SC.
