A beautiful Syagrus, endemic of the Chapada Diamantina -Bahia ,grows on rocks at about 1000m altitude. The vegetation of the mountain was recently almost destroyed by a huge fire . Very ornamental plant.5710d09c562bc_Mucug044.thumb.JPG.7da6a785710d0dc1ec47_Mucug052.thumb.JPG.7af6b395710d14014ab9_Mucug053.thumb.JPG.7adc526

I think so , because is found in the municipality of Mucugê - BA at an altitude of approximately 1000 meters and Syagrus are resistant .

Syagrus harleyi is another dwarf species that I do not have yet.  I wish seeds of the dwarf Syagrus and Butia species was more available because I really like them.  Seeing some of them in habitat and then after visiting Harri Lorenzi's Plantarum Botanical Garden in Brasil I became very interested in them.

Attached photo shows many of them growing on a mound at the Plantarum Botanical Garden,

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!
