Insects in indoor palmscapes - aside from Fungus Gnats

Howdyall:

I noted with interest the thread about fungus gnats which seems to be the worst problem many have in their indoor plantscapes.

Here in Los Angeles, I've tried to use potted palms from my garden in my law office, at the head lawyer's behest. He liked plants, so . . .

The problem was that the palms, grown outdoors in my Death Camp, often came infested with insects, particularly scale, Since the building is a sealed environment, no ladybugs, etc. which prey on the scale, can get in, and the scale went wild.

It was necessary to take the palms OUTSIDE and souse them with acephate solution (no longer available) and wait a bit, then bring them back in.

(In the end, I removed them back home because there wasn't enough light for them to thrive.)

Anyone else have similar experiences?
