Our Zamia in the garden.

Zamia is a wonderfully attractive and diverse genus of Cycad. I particularly like them for their smaller size and flexible watering requirements. Here at Miami Beach Botanical Gardens, we are still in the beginning stages of puting together a decent collection of Zamia. We currently have many integrifolia and three different subspecies of pumilla. The latest and most interesting introduction to the garden is sp. bahama; we were given these along with our pumilla from the always amazing Montgomery Botanical Center. Pictures are to follow...

And lastly the sp. Bahama. I planted ten yeaterday, under this red Acacia. There was a desperate need for a drought tolerant, sun hardy groundcover under this tree.
