Talipot avenue in Peradenyia

First planted in 1885, this avenue is one of the best feature of Peradeniya gardens.

Since the species is monocarpic, maybe the avenue has been replanted already 2 or 3 times since that first generation.

I have seen the last Corypha flowering and fruiting since 2008.

width of the avenue may be 5 meters, distance between plants around 10 m.

I have this same postcard and a couple of other palm postcards framed on the wall in my bathroom. It's amazing to see what the area looks like today. I'm glad that they're replanting these palms, hopefully using one's grown from the seeds they produced.
