I bought this little Ptychosperma today, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw it....... It was labeled as Ptychosperma macarthurii. The plant on the right of the pot is definitely P. macarthurii....... The red one on the left is a Ptychosperma but I have never seen any that were red like this (apart from red new leaves).

Very interesting! It should be interesting to see if it keeps the coloration into adulthood.

My best thoughts are two fold. First, as this palm gets larger, it will out grow the red coloring, but possibly still produce a new red leaf if it does so already. And as far as I know, there's not a species of Ptychosperma that produces it's offspring all showing this red. But I do hope it holds some good color as it gets large. Please keep us informed down the road.

Pretty sure that most Big W palms in Qld come from lizard mountain nursery in Yeppoon. Give the owner a call, he might be able to shed some light on this mystery. Sure is a nice looking palm.

Yes true but lately the Airlie Beach store has been getting a lot from Fitzroy Nursery too...... I doubt that I would get much of a response, they would have sent it on without even looking at it.

Interesting colouration there Pal......... I think that is unusual for P. lineare too........ All of the ones I have grown have been green.
