My First Archontophoenix Seedlings! First Anything

Briank

Recommended Posts

Thanks To DoomsDave for giving me some Archontophoenix Tukeri Seeds few months ago.  Gave me so many I just used about 1/2( Which was about 50) seeds in first batch.  Don't have a green house, so I just did old fashion way. Put into a 15-20GA pot, about 1/2-3/4" below soil level.  With the heat we have been having, I thought I might see some sprout, but was anticipating a spring growth... But WHALA! They are coming through now. Just water and this heat.  Curious to see how fast these grow, as someone else gave me about 50 Beatrice that had already sprouted, and they are growing like weeds.  Giving them away. Probably be doing same.

I just got into the Palm Love Affair 6 months ago, and just been putting palms in ground and keeping some on patio to just grow a jungle front/back/ side yard.  Was not into growing anything, but figured the best way to start is with some King Seeds. I know this much, that Archontophoenix has to be one of the easiest/fasted Palm a beginner can start with. And true enough it is. IMO.     THANKS DAVE FOR ALL THE SEEDS, WILL KEEP YOU POSTED!

Very well done Briank.................No starts the obsession !!!

Looks like a "jungle-to-be" :greenthumb::D

You wrote: "…I thought I might see some sprout, but was anticipating a spring growth …" Perhaps they are sprouting now because it is now spring in their habitat Austral

Pal Meir, many species of Archontophoenix tend to flower and fruit at various times of the year. That is especially true of A. alexandrae in this area, they fruit numerous times throughout the whole year.

Of course I know that, this is true for most tropical rainforest plants, didn’t you see my face: ^_^

Brian, good to see your success. They're been a real confidence builder for me, too.

Archies pop right up, just a bit of heat and moisture. I've got 325 plants in 4", plus more community pots on the way.

And more seeds a coming.

Happy you, do you know which adventure you start?

A. tuckeri  is not the most common species, you start with a very interesting palm.

Looking forward to seeing the future of your love affair. :)
