The seedling was half a year old in Dec 1986; it was potted only in cacti soil. Later I potted it into ca. 3/4 Seramis; BTW Seramis is burnt loam. — I tried to keep that palm by root pruning as long as possible as a small bonsai:

Very nice looking Brahea Pal,

BTW, I have noticed many of the pots has weeds or grass? Did you leave them like that on purpose? As I thought they might get water and other nutriotions from that plant ?

The weed was not a good idea; It served a bit as protection for the soil against our heavy rainfalls and thunderstorms we had.

I just put these Phoenix canariensis seeds in zip bag with wet paper towel and today I checked and as you see I can see some roots …

Please let me know, should I move them to pot right now or wait for the green shoot appears too ?

I would repot them now (or the smaller ones a bit later) in the L weddellianum mix, i.e. 2/3 fine pine bark + 1/3 Seramis + 1 cm LECA layer on the bottom. You don’t need a nano-greenhouse if you water them adequately and use that well draining soil mix.

No own experience, only with A catechu which was growing too fast too tall for indoors …

Awesome success here!

I want to share something strange. I have seedling of three headed Adonidia merrillii and two headed Veitchia arecina. Both came from 1 seed and 1 sprout only. This happened after a month, maybe two after germination! Does anyone have experiences with this mutation?

Happy growing!

Vojtech

Anyone has experience with Veitchia Joannis seeds? I have mine in a propagator over a heat mat. Some are in perlite, some in potting soil with perlite, some in moss. Temperature must be around 28C in the propagator. No signs of life yet after 2 months. Is that normal? Seeds were collected in October according to the seller.

I must confess that in the beginning I did not water the pots regularly and the soil went totally dry. Now I make sure that doesn't happen.

With pure perlite and pure sphagnum moss, should I water daily?
