I'm from Nebraska and found Josh via Craigslist and have made two visits to him to pick up palms. Always great choices, many more exotic species here than typically seen so it's easy to impulse buy! I always leave with more knowledge about palms and putting many more on my mental list to have in the future. Since I drive here from Nebraska I'm limited by what I can haul back in my truck...

Thanks Josh! you know I'll take great care of them.

First of all his selection is top notch for an up and coming palm grower and I am excited to see what his new nursery has in store for us palm nuts. He is very passionate about growing  and distributing palms. With so many awesome palm nurseries in southern California, it's nice to have another nursery to look forward to. We are blessed to have so many great growers in our region that have the desire to keep the passion for palms alive. :greenthumb:

Top-notch dude.  Josh worked with me to get a plant I HAD to have up to Norcal...through some serious trials and tribulations!  Highly recommended.

I bought from Josh before he was on palm talk and he was and is a total jerk.... Just kidding. Super nice guy with really nice plants. I got quite a few odd ball palms from him that I thought wouldn't grow for me but they all have. Healthy plants and good prices. I would recommend him and would buy from him again. Wednesday sounds good.

A guy with the biggest palm bug you'll ever meet...     But seriously, Josh's been very knowledgeable and helpful in the two times I've bought plants from him. All palms have been in exceptional condition and very, very healthy, including this crazy thing. He certainly puts the mojo into them.

I would get lots more but he lives just too darn far away....  :mrlooney:

I think what attracted me to Josh was his big Dypsis, Oh wait I can't post that.  Seriously I have been to both his Carlsbad house and his Vista growing grounds and not only are they great places to look at palms, but has great selection of quality plants available for purchase. Josh will spend time discussing each species and his experience with them as well as advise on how to best maintain them. He is also quite happy to give you a tour of his grounds and his "up and coming thread" will soon be legendary.  I have always been quite happy with the material I have bought from him, definitely one of my favorite  stops!

Absolutely thrilled with the service Josh provides... it is so nice to have curated, cared for, and professionally cleaned seeds delivered within the week (I am lucky to live in the same state!).

I bought before I knew this thread existed so I am happy to add to the chorus of support for Josh.

As far as shipping palms, F-. I was going to buy a Parajubaea from Junglemusic. Josh posted that he had some, so I asked what the price was & agreed to the price & sent payment. After he had "whoever" ship the palm, he called me & wanted more money because he said the shipping was so high. ??? 5 gal. palm shows up in a box the size of a small washing machine... All the soil was out of the container & roots were bone dry. Whoever he had ship it, poked a hole through the box pushed thread through, wrapped it around the trunk & back out of another hole in the box. Then threw some plastic wrap in the box. Put a garbage bag around the container... Nothing to secure the tree so it flopped around for a week in the box from CA to SC... Needless to say it is now in the compost pile. Might as well have burned my money.

Todd,

I'm not sure what went wrong with the shipping of the palm? When it left my location it was in perfect shape and professionally wrapped, packed and shipped via UPS. Ag or UPS  had to of opened the box and took out the palm and then tried to put it back together.  I know somebody did because it was secure. I stand by my products, service, quality and commitment to excellence!! If you would like a full refund I will be more than happy to.

Send me a PM to further the process if you would like your money back?

sincerely,

Josh

I'm in no way questioning the experience of others, but Josh shipped me a 5g Coco Queen about a year ago that could have withstood an RPG attack.  Metal stakes in the box to prevent any damage if inverted, and bulletproof packing.  I was pleased to say the least, especially as these hybrids are tough to find in smaller sizes.  Anyway, I suspect any issues were an aberration caused by some sort of interdiction and can hopefully be resolved amicably.  Just thought I'd share my experience with Josh's shipping.

It is possible UPS may have opened the box, But to poke two holes in the side of the box and run twine in, wrap it around the trunk & back out to try secure it inn a box 6 times the size of the plant?

First Visit to see Josh today after trying for sometime to get up to nursery and garden.  Amazing experience and awesome Palms! I'm moderate palm experience and knowledge and learned a lot! After going through a list of palms I had in mind, and seeing them first hand I was able to settle on 4 palms I wanted.  Josh was very helpful selecting the best ones and found some others that I need to go back and get ! Awesome tour of whole property it's coming along great.  Everyone must go check out, learn a bunch and buy some palms.  If you can't find it at Josh's Place, good luck. 5 stars. Will be back thanks Josh

I ordered some Jubaea seeds from Josh recently. Communication was good and friendly and the seeds arrived today in Amsterdam in good shape. Josh even sent some photo's of the motherplants which added to the magic of germinating palmseeds. Great business! Thanks!

Thanks for the kind feed back. The seed I sent you is super fresh and I have very good germination rates when I do germinate them myself. The mother trees are just stunning to look at in person and have very good genetics. Thanks again for the business :)

Laaz, of all the plants I have ever had shipped, only one plant seller did a fantastic job.  She poked two holes on each side of the box & then under the bottom, and then ran twine over the sides of the pot, and then was pulled back thru bottom ofbox.  This held the pot down in the box, so that it didn't slide around.  It was packed with newspaper onto the soil, and then taped, around, top to bottom, and several times to hold the soil in case it does get tipped over.  Last, several stakes in the pot (preferably to top of box) that are taller than plant to protect the top of plant.  Cecile

I ship plants all the time & have never had a issue. All the shipping places have the tall boxes that fit just about any size pot snug. I put newspaper on top of the soil & then duct tape over the top of the pot to make sure the soil can't come out. The push a bamboo stick down through to the bottom of the pot. Wrap the pot with a garbage bag & tape it. Slide it into the box & cut the bamboo even with the top of the box... Secure & never a issue unles it run over by a truck....

Great PRA with Josh and Nachocarl today in Vista.  Josh was super giving of his time, spending 3-4 hours showing us around his specimen garden and hooking us up with some super plants.  Totally awesome experience!

Awesome time indeed and finally nice to meet you. I'm still tripping on how many big palms we put in your little car. I think you have done this before.  :)
