Socratea rostrata

Recommended Posts

This little Socratea rostrata has been in ground for a good 3 yrs now, its much slower than Dictyocaryum but its a "Goer"

Ive "never" had luck with Soc exorhizza, ( KrisK who lives much closer to the coast is ) but this "highest" elevation Socratea is showing "great" potential. :)

Added pics to show I "keep" the stilt covered to keep it humid and always moist, I find that method very good for stilt root Palms here in the cool sub tropics where the "garden " can get down to 3c.

If "anyone" has pic/s of their Rostrata to share "please do", many thanks. :)

Pete

You are very lucky to have a climate where you can grow some of these cloud forest palms. Some of the most impressive palms around.

Thanks Len, not near as lucky as the Big Islanders, but that was their and my choice, not luck :) , also, maybe it helps because "my head is in the clouds" ? :) Pete

Pete,

I wish we could grow them here as well. But our winters just get too cold on occasions and take them out. I have seen these in habitat and they are pretty cool to see, especially big ones with lots of prop roots. Good luck with yours.

Thanks Jeff, Rostrata is the "only" Socratea that Ive had success with here , thanks to it being the "highest" elevation Socratea :)
