silverleaf whiteflies

Recommended Posts

I suddenly appear to have loads of silverleaf whiteflies all over my back garden. However, I don't really see much damage on anything, except for a tiny bit of the white creamy substance on a few leaves (minor - I am inclined to ignore it). Does anyone have experience with silverleaf whiteflies? Advice?

Many thanks.

I don't know what "silverleaf whitefly" is but I wouldn't leave it untreated. I had Rugose spiraling whitefly in my ficus hedge and some of my palms and I had them treated because they were killing the plants. Here is an article from our local newspaper.

Hello Sur4Z. Thank you for directing my attention. to the rugose spiraling whitefly. I would not have thought of that particular whitefly in my region, but I think that it may be what I have an infestation of because I have the spiraling pattern drawn on some leaves of a schleffera actynophylla by this pest. I discovered this characteristic of the rugose spiraling whitefly in this video:

I was not aware that the rugose spiraling whitefly had become such a problem in southern Florida. I am amazed that it has moved this far north, although it may have followed me north on plants which I bought down south!

I've noticed a distinct downturn of the rugose spiraling whitefly population in South Florida. Might be a predator that developed a taste for these obnoxious critters. They were horrible for the past few years.
