Actually I find the qualities of the design have a certain jenny-say-qua as likened to the appeal of MC Escher's graphics. In other words, I can dig it.

More about the building:

"The Broad, which is designed by Diller Scofidio + Renfro, will open to the public on September 20. With its innovative “veil-and-vault” concept, the 120,000-square-foot, $140 million building will feature two floors of gallery space to showcase the Broad’s comprehensive collections and will be the headquarters of The Broad Art Foundation’s worldwide lending library. Dubbed “the veil and the vault,” the museum’s design merges the two key components of the building: public exhibition space and archive/storage. Rather than relegate the archive/storage to secondary status, the “vault,” plays a key role in shaping the museum experience from entry to exit. Its heavy opaque mass is always in view, hovering midway in the building. Its carved underside shapes the lobby below, while its top surface is the floor plate of the exhibition space. The vault is enveloped on all sides by the “veil,” an airy, honeycomb-like structure that spans across the block-long gallery and provides filtered natural daylight."

Unfortunately that 'baleen' analogy rarely carries a positive connotation in the realm of architecture even though this is a more literal application of the term. Nevertheless the L.A. Times architecture review will I'm sure be glowing. But in its defense it is positively svelte and quite fanciful compared to the new Cooper Union in Manhattan. Google that one and you'll see what I mean. Everything is relative. Ack!!

Actually, this is part of a big scheme to make Grand Avenue, grand, lined with museums, like some similar avenues or booleys in Europe. I'm sure some of our more cosmopolitan travelers will know which ones I mean.

Disney Hall has had a lot of write up, and it's a major attraction. Hundreds of thousands of tourist all the time.
