RIP Ben E King & Jack Ely

Saw in the morning news that Ben E King, 76 (Stand By Me), had passed away. Remember listening and singing along to that song back in my school days along with friends. It's one of those songs I could listen to over and over. Loved his voice and delivery of it. Also enjoyed the movie entitled same, featuring that song. Here's a link to the NYTimes article on his passing:

http://www.nytimes.com/2015/05/02/arts/music/ben-e-king-soulful-singer-with-the-drifters-dies-at-76.html?_r=0

While reading the news I also noticed a link to the passing of Jack Ely, 71, of the Kingsmen (Louie, Louie). That was another song that played all the time when I was a kid. I remember discussions about what the words were to this song but don't recall the Govt investigating it so found the article interesting and hilarious at the same time. Here's the link to the story:

BTW both articles have links within to the songs being sung so give a listen for a flash from the past and nod to these guys. I'm feeling older today.

Maybe, or maybe not. Depending on one's beliefs, could be the magic is just starting, or not.

Stand By Me is such a classic. I was at a wedding for my nephew about 3 weeks ago, and this song was in the marriage program, played live by two guys, one on electric bass and the whole church full of folk, including yours truly, sang along heartily to this great Ben E King song. How's that for longevity and relevance of a song.

We are about to lose another "King". I recently saw that BB King is in Hospice care. BB's 89 & has fought diabetes for years. Too many Kings, too little time.

Okay I confess I had no idea who he was or what he sang until a tribute on tv last night. While I still dont really recall the person I knew a couple of the songs once I heard them. He was a man of talent thats for certain.
