Dioon angustifolium

Apparently, this species has been separated from Dioon edule. If I'm not mistaken, it is somewhat slower growing, more cold-hardy, and more glaucous than edule. Here are a couple nice ones I got from Tom Broome and planted at the family business. Please post pics of yours, too!

Depends on the Edule for how glaucous. "Queretaro" and "Rio Verde" varieties are the 'bluest'. Angustofolium here in SoCal is a fast grower for a Dioon. One of my fastest. The cool distinctive feature is the long, narrow leaflets. Great cycad for the garden.

Yes, the leaves come out pink to light purple, depending on the plant, and once they are full length, they show a bluish look to them. Around here, we may get a couple of weeks of a blue look, and then after a few rain events, the leaves are light green.

Thanks, what is a good resource to learn about this genus?

Here is one I found at a friendly local home improvement warehouse garden center with no ID. What species/variety could it be? This pic of the flush is from last July. Like you all have mentioned, it faded to light green within a few weeks or so.

That looks like a standard Edule.

Both are thriving and have flushed despite my rough treatment of their roots, although the second has had some fronds damaged by the guys who trim the hedges.

Interesting to compare the color of this year's flush between these two plants.

And here is the third plant. Kind of weird that not all of the fronds in the new flush are the same size.

This one, and its sibling in the previous post, have a bit of brown on older leaves, especially the tips. Is there something I should do about that?
