Was out on a random PRA with Pops and came across two very nice Ravenea. I am not entirely certain of the species so I am going to post here for opinions, please...

The first is a small one--I thought maybe hildebrandtii, but maybe not?

Looks too big to be the palm I know as R. hildebrandtii.

Ok, second one. Is this a regular majesty? It looks great and healthy, but the trunk is quite a bit smaller than I have seen most to be...

The first one does indeed look like a nice, well-grown "stiffy" as opposed to "droopy"* glauca. How old is it?

Second one, hard to say, without knowing how big it is. There are a lot of Raveneas, and I suspect that some might hybridize.

* Male v. female?

Mandrew,

The first one looks similar to a palm I have in SoCal that was purchased as Dypsis kingaly - but clearly looked to be a Ravenea early on. It then appeared to possibly be a R. glauca. But since there are R. glaucas and R. hildebrandtii in the same garden to compare - it is not one of them either. So as far as I know, this may be one that is not yet positively identified.

Ravenea glauca

(Don't know if it holds true to all R. glauca specimens, but my impression is that a lot of these have a J form to the base)
