Sabal miamiensis (the seed came from Fairchild in Miami)

DSC_0238.jpg

Early morning in the Sabal collection. This area was planted in July of 2002 and contains many cultivars of S. minor from Hatteras, North Carolina to Oklahoma and the Piedmont of Georgia to the panhandle of Florida. They don't all look the same or grow the same size under exactly the same conditions.

This is what the same area looked like when it was first planted:

Joe, has that Sabal miamiensis ever flowered? I started one from seed about ten years ago, and is has since rocketed past that one (but it is in full sun in Gainesville) and looks set to flower next year. I think the one you have pictured is quite a few years older.

I don't think that it has bloomed yet. I don't go down there that often and sometimes the bloom stalks have been cut off instead of letting them go to seed. I should have looked down in the center of the palm to check.
