A Coccothrinax that likes to lie down

Here's a weird one.

This is a Coccothinax (borhidiana hybrid most likely) that is growing horizontally.

It is located in a sunny open position but for some reason the growth direction of the trunk is close to the ground.

it's an interesting novelty but I just wonder what causes this. Anyone seen this odd feature in another palm ?

Gene, I guess the roots have not been able to keep the palm upright. In time, when it will be rooted better, it will start to grow towards the sky and you will endup with a palm with a bended trunk! Could be nice to look at. I have a young Trachycarpus princeps that does the same.

Regards,

Wim.

When mine do this in a pot usually means mealy bugs have gotten to the butt and killed some roots, check that they aren't hiding in there. It happens to my 1 gallon size palms all the time.
