In my new abode out in the middle of nowhere, there be cool looking finches, not Finch Hatton, or Peter Finch, just the feathered variety. All I have to do is peer out the kitchen window and here's what I get to see every day.

Isn't the Red-browed Finch named Neochmia temporalis ? and the Double-barred finch = Taeniopygia bichenovii ?

Thanks for pointng that out Ned. It's been super hot here and I need to top up the bird baths daily, there's been heaps of varieties utilising these water relief stations.
