Since there are so many epicureans on Palm Talk, here is the question:

If one was visiting San Diego County, which two Mexican Restaurants would you recommend? Two are requested since proximity may be a factor.

Coral Gables, FL 8 miles North of Fairchild USDA Zone 10B

There's a place called Cotijas on 24th and market, just East of downtown. People will swear by one otjer, but truthfully, most of them are pretty good. El Indio is excellent as well, and is just North of downtown.

For a meal far beyond the usual tacos and enchiladas, try upscale Candelas. Two locations, downtown and Coronado on the bay (this one is best).

Let me consult my very discerning and opinionated amigas for additional suggestions...

Martha recommends Old Town Mexican Café in Old Town. They have been serving hand made tortillas for at least 30 years. Carnitas! Wow!

Fred's Mexican in Old Town. Taco Tuesday had 20oz margaritas, and $2 tacos. Great atmosphere!

Minerva recommends 'Puesto' in "The Headquarters" -- in the old police station building next to the Hyatt hotel on Harbor Drive near Seaport Village.

I think not Bell of the Taco ...

Zone 10a at best after 2007 AND 2013, on SW facing hill, 1 1/2 miles from coast in Oceanside, CA. 30-98 degrees, and 45-80deg. about 95% of the time.

there are 2 places near me that are very authentic & delicious, the 1st is El Borrego on el cajon blvd at fairmount, a family run place where they make the

guacamole by hand when you order it & lamb is the only meat they use. my father-law swears by their posole & he has travelled in mexico extensively.

the second is another family-run business called Carnitas Michoacan on university ave at aragon. i have only eaten there once but it was a little slice

of heaven, for sure. try & stay away from the corporate/chain places & hit the "mom & pop" shops like these & you'll do well.

The best place for Mexican lamb (borrego) is 10 miles south of San Diego in Chula Vista, CA: "Aqui es Texcoco" Restaurant.

Food is superior. Authentic, genuine Mexican.   Order head of lamb. You'll go to heaven and back.  (Oh, you won't break the bank. And the food is unforgettable)

I used to live in Chicago.  Its overpopulated, but not like LA, and all of its collar counties.  It's an old city, and has struggled to upgrade its infrastructure.  Chicago has rich culture, especially in its vast expanse Eastern European neighborhoods.  Weather sucks though.

Cleveland, where I lived until 1985, is the same, in miniature.

Weather not quite as vile, most of the time.

El Zarape is %10000000000000000000000000000000000000000 the best mexican in the city. Unfortunately due to covid it has not been quite as fresh, so another good place is Los Panchos.
