Livistona mariae X L. decipiens(decora) F2 Seeds

The mother tree is a L. mariae X L. decipiens hybrid. That makes the seeds produced F2's. This means the resulting seedlings can look like L. mariae, L. decipiens, or anything in-between. In my experience of growing these in the past is they most resemble L. mariae. But anything is possible. Seeds may be cleaned or partially cleaned as they are large. $12/100 includes US shipping.

Out of interest, was the mother plant an intentional cross? Or did it just happen? I have been searching for data of the phenology(flowering seasons) of these two species in cultivation but can't find much data for L. mariae. Do you know maybe if the parent species flower in the same time period or was pollen of either stored for some time till the other flowered and then the flowers hand pollinated?

Thank you very much in advance! :)

Kostas,

No this was not an intentional hybrid. As far as I know, (and it's been 20 yrs) a nursery grew seeds of either L. mariae OR L. decipiens and some seedling appeared different, had hybrid vigor etc.

I can tell you I have L. mariae, that blooms every year and never sets seeds. I also have Liv. saribus out front and it only blooms and sets seed every other year.

Giuseppe,

I need to look into shipping, but flat rate international seems to be very high $24.75. First class international for 1 lb looks like $16.95

Hi Mandrew, I just looked over all my pics, and I don't have it anymore. I will take another pic maybe today or tomorrow if the sun comes out (it's gloomy and rainy again), and post for your viewing pleasure.

Kostas, I believe my L. mariae bloomed several months ago, maybe early spring? I can't remember for sure, but they are dead and dropped now.

Was looking up hybrid Livistona for my sister and found this post.

They are great seeds - had good germination from these.  They grow fast even as seedlings and one I have growing outside gets some red color when it gets in the low 40's - kinda like Bismarckia seedlings.  So definitely has some mariae characteristics.
