Dypsis marojejya… or coursii?

Last visit to Hawaii I heard that one of our favorite palms, Dypsis marojejya, may NOT be D marojejya but Dypsis coursii instead, and that D marojejya was actually a much larger palm. Anything new on this?

Geoff,

I'm not sure the timing of your last visit to Hawaii, but here is the link to the latest discussion we have had here on Palm Talk on the subject, with an excellent summary of data provided by our moderator. Although there is nothing definitive there, I hope the information is helpful nonetheless - that is, if you were not aware of the thread already. If you or anyone else has any new information on the ID, I would love to hear it.

Geoff, the last I heard on the matter was that when John was in Jeff's garden and saw his flowering plants he felt pretty confident it was Dypsis marojejyi. When you read POM a big difference is that it says Coursii is infrafoliar with shorter inflorescence and Marojejyi is interfoliar with longer inflorescence. Every plant labeled as Marojejy that I have seen personally or in pictures in flower is interfoliar. And the inflorescence is certainly pretty large.
