Any of our Napa area PT members affected by the 6.0?

On route for a morning Starbucks heard that a 6.0 hit Napa early this a.m. and there's been damage and injuries. Sounds like hundreds of buildings damaged and water knocked out so fires claimed some structures. I'm sure I've seen members from that area post and hope they came through it OK. Always hard to tell from early reports how widely affected people were.

We were too far south to have felt it but it's all that was on my car radio. Checked out some of the coverage on the internet and looks like the more historic downtown area took a hit but that's kind of expected with older brick facade structures with lots of fallen brick, shattered glass and gaping holes in brick walls. Obvious clean up in some stores from the photos. Some vitners are reporting major losses to their bottled wine inventory--one wiped out of two years. One photo showed a deep crack running in a local grapefield where it broke the surface. Some hotels damaged and evacuated. There's apparently an auto race today that will go on so it was interesting to read a few stories that got reported from drivers staying at local hotels like Helio Castroneves. Sounds like it will be expensive for some and clearly some infrastructure will need rebuilding like buckled, separated roadways. It was the strongest quake to hit this general area of California since the 6.9 of Loma Prieta.

Here's the reports and some pictures:

http://news.msn.com/us/3-people-critically-injured-after-california-quake

NAPA, Calif. (AP) — A large earthquake caused significant damage and left three critically injured in California's northern Bay Area early Sunday, igniting fires, sending at least 87 people to a hospital, knocking out power to tens of thousands and sending residents running out of their homes in the darkness.

Two adults and one child have critical injuries and Queen of the Valley hospital has treated 87 people, the city of Napa in California wine country said in a statement Sunday. Most patients have cuts, bumps, bruises, said Vanessa DeGier, spokeswoman for the hospital in Napa. She says the facility has treated a hip fracture and heart attack, but it's unclear if it was related to the 6.0-magnitude earthquake. The hospital has set up a triage tent and many people are still coming in, DeGier said.

The quake caused six significant fires, including at a mobile home part, Napa Division Fire Chief Darren Drake said. Four mobile homes have been destroyed and two others damaged, the city said. Several other smaller fires have been reported and firefighting efforts have been complicated by broken water mains.

David, you crack me up ! :floor: Keep it up with the clever repartee.

www.sfgate.com has the latest info, 120 injuries, only 3 in critical condition, not really that bad for property damage.

Yes, it woke me up from a sound sleep, seemed to go on for a long time, perhaps 30 seconds. (Believe me, that's a long time when one is riding the earthquake.)

My first thought is always " Is this one trivial?... or is this a huge calamity ?" :winkie:

NPR this morning was saying only 18 of all the walk-ins were admitted for injuries, worst was the boy with head trauma from a chimney falling on him.

Don't see a lot of photos of ridiculous damage, but they were saying 22 buildings had been red-tagged already and early estimates are at about 1 Billion USD.

A few hours later Chile had a 7.0 and not a squeak about it on the news....

If it was a lonely unpopulated part of Chile, that's why. If it's in Santiago, I'll bet that'll bring notice. Also, keep in mind those people have endured 9.5 on the expletive Richter scale.

On the other hand, maybe we're just too easily distracted here.

"News" is entertainment that requires ratings to sell commercials, and nobody cares if some llamas got wobbly legs for a few minutes. . .

I heard on the radio this a.m. that Vallejo south of Napa has structural damage as well. The City of Vallejo came out of bankruptcy just a few years ago. Not much attention given in TV reports that I've seen.
