BPACS August 2014 Outing - Roma St Parklands

Hi Everyone, regarding tomorrow’s BPACS outing...
The August outing is to Roma St Parklands, a very short walk from the Brisbane CBD. The parklans contains a great collection of plants, including many exotic palms.
Arno King has alerted us to the fact that this weekend is also 'Parks Alive ' at Roma St - the biggest event there for the year. This will impact on parking availability, so it may be best to try and park away from Roma St and then walk/bus/train to the parklands to avoid parking frustration.
We will still continue with the tour at 10:00am , so to make sure you are there on time, please factor in the additional parking/travel time.
Greg Smith has kindly offered to lead the tour and provide us with a history of the plantings in the first stage in the Exotic Palm Gardens at the bottom of College Crescent, as Palms for Brisbane designed and supplied all of the palm plantings.
So to confirm, we will meet in the car park at College Crescent at 10:00am....it may be wise to bring an umbrella as well! It could be a windy and wet kind of day...
If everyone wants to we can stop somewhere for lunch as well.
To add to this, if we have time, we can also drive over to New Farm Park to check out some of the surprise plantings there. They have an interesting collection of palms there that is worth a look....Pigafetta, Variegated Alexandras etc to name a couple.
Non- BPACS members are welcome to come along and join in on the fun.

Sadly I won't be there, I sure hope the day turns out okay weather wise and lots of photos get posted, way overdue for an update on these terrific gardens.

Happy Gardening
