G'day again, well this was Kennybenjamin and yours trulys first point of call once we touched down in Cairns literally, straight of the plane and off to Flecker. Im gonna pretty much make this a pictorial thread of Flecker, due to some very big threads coming up in the next few days. Due to some very heavy rain half way thru our tour of the gardens I had to put the camera away, so I hope you enjoy the scenery

Probably obvious to those in the know but I feel compelled to point out this is a good sized Tahina spectabilis, in great condition and a great position in the gardens..... There was at least 2 planted in this area.... Onwards and upwards for these specimens!!

Yes I'm very interested to know if anyone can I'd these??? The things that struck me about these palms are:

6 foot palms with single stem, leaves all the way to the ground, no crown shaft yet which I thought was strange for an Areca of this size?? There were 4 planted specimens... 2 displayed fine leaflets and 2 displayed broad leaflets, definitely the same species but obviously a variation exists. I really wondered what these palms would look like when a little older and how long they would hold onto the lower leaves for?? A strange but great palm species IMO!!! I asked a couple of our North Qld friends but no one could help me with an id?

Is that an actual palm pictured above?

Yeah mate, I think it is a species of metroxylon.... Rediculously massive palm!!

G'day boys!

Glad to see you made it back in one piece!

That mystery palm Paul was bartering his mother off for is infact a Drymophloeus sp.

And Ben the other you had seen in Hawaii is a Hydriastele. Forgotten which one now off the top of my head but shouldn't be too hard to id.
