Time to give up the germination ghost?

There is an orange tall coconut variety in my neighborhood with a giant fat trunk and huge bronze fruit. Needless to say I want one bad. I grabbed a fallen nut off the ground and have attempted to germinate this thing. It has been about a year with nothing. It still has liquid in it. Should I now give up? What is the longest one has gone while finally germinating? Thanks for your advice and comments.

Usually after a year I remove the husk and delid the coconut to see if it's got a good embryo. Make sure you wear gloves though, because if it's rotten it'll take a few days to get the stench off your hands if you don't.

Thats a long time. Coconuts like lots of heat to germinate. Placing one in a compost pile or under a bunch of manure works well for me. The cooler temps in the winter particularly where you are tend to stop the germination.
