Those diggin' and movin' Teddy Bear palm blues

(cue up harmonicas played by guys with sunglasses in a dark room)

I got me a Teddy Bear Palm (harmonica chord)

Dypsis leptochelios, to be so exact (harmonica chord)

And it's so very very unhappy (harmonica chord)

and that is such an unfortunate fact (harmonica chord)

Ahem. (Drums pound, like Animal from the Muppet Show) Bam-buppita-bam-buppita-bam bam bam bam bam -TING!

This teddy bear was a nice gift from one of our members who realized he couldn't grow it where he was so he gave it to me, and I planted out front, next to a Roystonea princeps.

I think it's too exposed and not enough water. It's growing but looks sorta gnarly, like Spicoli after too many In-N-Out burgers. Pale in the leaf, too many accordion deformities. I think it needs a warmer, moister place.

It's not trunking, but getting close. I want to dig and move it. The plan is to dig it up and put it into a 15-gallon pot, acclimate it, then re-home it. At my place, or, even better, a deserving publicly viewable venue?

Experiences, anyone?

Thoughts appreciated.

if it's doing poorly then digging it up isn't going to improve its condition. I know of a place in the inland Empire that has some almost trunking teddys for not much money, send me a PM and I can refer you.

Well, I have some that are doing well, and I can move it in with them.

I just want to know if it will take being dug and put in a 15 or maybe 20 gallon pot.

Well then, how about the longest song title of all time...a WWll ditty; 'I'm a cranky old Yank, in a clanky old tank, on the the streets of Yokahama with my Honolulu momma, doing those beat-oh beat-oh, flat-on-my-seato, Hirohito blues'.

Can't hep with yer palm blues.

Just move it...i've moved palms that aren't happy where they are all the time.

The weight of lies will bring you down / And follow you to every town / Cause nothin happens here

That doesn't happen there / So when you run make sure you run / To something and not away from

Cause lies don't need an aero plane / To chase you anywhere

I Dug one up the same size and it didn't skip a beat. It now resides at Gary's and is huge.
