Pseudophoenix lediniana

Al in Kona

Recommended Posts

Pseudophoenix lediniana grows well in our garden with little care other than an occasional weeding. Rarely given supplemental water and never fertilized but mulched infrequently. I really like this species of Pseudophoenix which has been a somewhat faster grower for me than the other two species. I'd plant more of these were they readily available. Anybody else growing this one?

Hawaii Island (Big Island), leeward coast, 19 degrees N. latitude, south Kona mauka at approx. 380m (1,250 ft.) and about 1.6 km (1-mile) upslope from ocean.

No record of a hurricane passing over this island (yet!).

Summer maximum rainfall - variable averaging 900-1150mm (35-45") - Perfect drainage on black volcanic rocky soil.

Nice sunsets!

Hi Al. That is a good looking pseudophoenix. I remember that one. Here are a few older pics of it.
