Good to see this tree Opuntia flowering here-
to bad I had to cut it in half.

This guy is ready to bloom, these are not particularly
hardy and this guy has had a long road to get to blooming size....
I started with 5-6 all planted on the little rise
in the center of the cactus garden-this plant is
one of the pups that fell off the dying mother
and rolled down to its current spot-this is the only
one to live so,it has some hardiness!

Top of the Tricho-already half a foot of growth with
temps just now warming up.

Little Takil is still on the mend...if you look close
you can see a tiny petiole and a half leaf, the next will be a healthy little "spear"...ideally..

    • New Butia
      By PalmTreeDude
So this palm is not new new, I had it in the ground since Spring. It is a Butia that I am planning to protect and hopefully do a good job doing so since I now have experience getting less cold tolarant palms (to my area) through the winter.

    • Virginia Sabal Palmetto Seedlings Update
      By PalmTreeDude
Here are my Sabal palmetto seedlings that I threw all over my garden from a seed stalk off of a palmetto in North Carolina about two years ago. They survived the first winter (a pretty bad one). Let's see how long these can keep going.

    • Butyagrus
      By RJ
First off. I'm new to palms, so handle with care.

Now that the disclaimer is out of the way I have recently purchased a few xButyagrus (mule palms) that are small straps. One had a bit of a mishap and pretty much bent in half, I held it up with a small piece of bamboo and string but noticed a bulge forming within a few days, I gave the newest spear a tug and out it came. Figured if it's going to make it, it will. Yesterday I noticed what appears to be a curmpled up spear attempting to work it way out. Is there anything I can do to help the little guy or should I just let it be? Mind you this palm has the diameter of a ticonderoga no. 2

    • Mediterranean Fan Palm Survived With No Protection
      By PalmTreeDude
I did not protect my Mediterranean Fan Palm at all this past winter (which was a really bad one here) and none of the suckers died. The middle trunk died the first winter I had it a few years ago. I just now got the idea to post a picture of it so here they are.

    • Sabal minor 'Arkansas' Seedling
      By PalmTreeDude
So I ordered these Sabal minor seeds a long time ago and used the baggy method. The only thing was the area they were in was cool, so only one of the 5 seeds germinated so far. The ones that did not were put into a smaller community pot outside so they will be warm and hopefully I get a few more to germinate. Anyone have any Sabal minor 'Arkansas' they can share? Pictures?
