I posted a thread about Brief garden, Bewis Bawa's property.

Bewis was the brother opt Geoffrey Bawa, a famous srilankan architect, who created Lunuganga, his own paradise, close to Bentota, in a uninterrupted work from 1948 until 80's.

It's now open to visits, http://www.geoffreybawa.com/lunuganga-country-estate

Visits I do almost every time I stay in Bentota, and I remember all the visits with Geoffrey.

Brief is a garden, but Lunuganga is a landscape.

Oh my god, I ignore that, it's a srilankan monitor.

Yes, not bengalensis, it's V. salvator, I zoomed in a little better. Also called the water monitor. Usually they have some spots and a pointier head, but probably camera angle. Could barely make out a few spots.

At one time I kept many species of Varanus. They are super cool.

Okay, I'm waffling, but I think bengalensis is correct.  That's the problem with common names!

What is the local name for that one?

Thanks for showing it!

Sorry I can't remember the sinhalese name for it, but I know they can be very dangerous wit their tail, very strong and sharp like a huge knife!
