This is just about beyond the reach of the pole pruner.

Looks like I need to get a longer one as I don't want to deal with seedlings.

Trunk height about 6-7 m.

Does look nice in the afternoon sun though.

Nice, is this the first time it's flowered?

No its flowered before but I have been removing them before they get this advanced.

Weeding seedlings is overrated IMO.

Are they germinating on the ground? How long from flower to popping up as a weed? I have read on here that they mature on the tree for nearly 5 years?

Right? I was just thinking, chambeyronia seedlings would be worth digging up (unlike the Washingtonias that regularly pop up in random places in my yard thanks to the local bird population...).

Bet you could sell the seeds. Right now, the only large scale place is from New Caledenia, from what I understand. (Someone correct me if I'm wrong.)

I agree with Dave, I think you can sell the seeds. At what size did yours first start to flower? I have about 5 feet of clear trunk on mine but I imagine it's still always off. Just curious. I'm like Zeeth, I wish I had the same problem

Gary

From memory they take about a year for seed to mature.

I have collected a handful of seedlings selected for redness of new leaf.

I'm still plucking seedlings.

I'm not that interested in selling seed but if someone wants to swap for palm seed I'm interested in let me know.

I think they were flowering at about 2 metre trunk stage. When they go they are really prolific here in Brisbane.

Palms devote so many resources to flowering, I bet that by cutting the flower spathes that you're causing the palm to grow faster than it normally would.

That's pretty cool Steve, i do agree they are great growers in Brisbane. I planted a very small plant in the garden at my first house 10 years ago, and i was suprised to see it flowering when i stopped in to see my old neighbour the other week. It has 7 foot of trunk. Cheers, Gary.
