The pictures in the other thread on this plant look great. Deep blue green leaves with full flushes.

Mine are a light green with yellow rachis. I use an 18-6-8 Nutricote 180 day release w/minors- and add a dose soluable Miracle Grow 24-8-16 once right as the heat arrives. It has given a nice response on all of the cycads in my yard except this one. These have grown, they just dont look like they should, and now this one is throwing a measly 3 leaf top.

Suggestions from others growing this plant are greatly appreciated. Tom or Jody- suggestions?

I really don't know much about growing cycads in California, but from the photo I would say it may be planted too deep.

Thanks for the reply Jody, but no...they were planted as two leaf seedlings on a low mound. The tan colored ring is snail bait.

Glenn, I am referring to where the old leaves come off the plant. They appear to be at soil level, which should not be the case on a plant that size. You mentioned that this plant has not responded like your others. I think it may have something to do with the level at which it is planted in the ground (or has come to be over time). If it is on a mound, I would remove a couple inches of soil from around the base of the caudex.

Mike, keep in mind that you should not apply Magnesium without also applying Potassium, as an over-abundance of Magnesium may cause a Potassium deficiency. While I don't think that applying Manganese Sulfate and/or K-Mag (K+Mg) would be bad for the plant, I don't think this is a nutrient deficiency.

I see, thank you Jody, that makes great sense. With respect to the lower leaves it does in fact look like it is now deep and yes, likely as a result of my digging around there as I do often.

Or it is about to flush?

It is flushing in the picture, a small 3 leaf top. It should be leafing 7+ at its size.

I was meaning rather to cone! Mine produced last year a at the end after several normal leaves a last atrophic very tiny leaf of about only 2 to 3 cm! I was sure it was a presign of conning and indeed following growing season, that is current time, has conned for the first time. Unfortunately the tiny leaf had been removed, it has dried up actually pretty fast.
