Fish Tail Palm

Recommended Posts

Hello,

Saw this at my supermarket. The minute I saw it, I thought 'Fishtail'.

But when I looked it up by common name, what I saw did not match my tree. One tree had a palmate leaf and the leaves really did not have the shape, or attachment to the petiole. One genus started with a 'W', the other a 'C'.

So, what is the botanical name of my tree?

Hello Dalmatian,

It may be that. On the other hand, if it's rare, which I guess it is, since I can't find it, I don't believe the Rio Grand Nursery, Texas, would be supplying it to grocery stores. As I recall the palm starting with a "W" was something like 'Weddl...', but I don't think it's that.

Thanks for the response.

So far, to me, it looks like Caryota albertii?

What I actually think is that what u have is Caryota mitis and the one in the store was Lytocaryum weddellianum.
