Anyone in to Ham Radio?

Recommended Posts

I just got my ham radio license today, actually I passed the test but I guess it will be a few weeks before I get the actual license in the mail. I don't have any equipment yet. So, any ham operators out there? You have any tips or pointers for me?

Good for you. I am KF5PLW, Extra Class. As for tips, what kind of communications are you looking for, local, regional, global, experimental stuff? I am radio-less at the moment myself. I know what I want for my next radio, just waiting for my budget to catch up with my desires.

In my post I sometimes express "my" opinion. Warning, it may differ from "your" opinion. If so, please do not feel insulted, just state your own if you wish. Cool, I knew someone had to be in to ham on here. I'd really like a nice setup one day, capable of international communication. The budget right now is significantly more restricted, so I'll probably just have to start out with a hand held.

Hi Ammon, I have a technician class license, since 1986, had a hand held 2 meter band for the first 3 years, the battery went bad, and I sold it, and never got another one, but my liecense is up to date, I've been thinking about buying one, but it's a money vs. need thing right now, Ed

Any recommendations for a good handheld radio? I'm afraid the budget won't allow for anything more at the moment.
