After seeing THE Lemur up the hill, the Jr. tag on mine seems fitting. I can only hope it will be as stately as Jeff's one of these days.

It's starting to grow much faster lately and is now developing a second smaller emergent spear while the larger one is still developing. It never used to do this and it would take a month or more before a new emergent spear would appear long after the last spear had opened and lost it's color.

Right after planting at the end of 2008, and it was beautiful way back then.

Beautiful palm!!! If it took 5 or 6 years for yours to get that big it think I am looking at about 10 years?? I have recently planted mine and it is slightly smaller than yours when you planted it. If mine looks anywhere near as nice as yours one day I will be very happy!! I just hope I will still be living in the same place in 10 years to see it!!

Excellent Tim!

I still think one can be grown in the right spot in So Cal.... albeit very slowly

@BS Man about Palms - I think you got a large (stretched) lemur some years ago?

Yes, and I contend that if I was ready to plant it out it would still be here. It got a little too dry when it was too cold.. :(

Tim, if yours is jnr then mine must be jnr jnr. You mentioned the little milestone of seeing a new spear emerge before the older one opens.... I have just now noticed mine to be doing exactly that for the first time.

This guy was planted about 3 months ago ( I had it in a pot for at least 2 years before planting it ). When I planted it the existing spear was large but no new spear emerging yet, since then the original spear opened, the large spear you see in the first pic below has developed and now the next one has developed! I'm happy with that growth in 3 months!!

Thanks palm nuts.

Ben, yours is showing a second spear way before mine did and at a much smaller size. Hmmmm, what are you feeding that thing.

Tim, this particular part of the garden appears to have good sandy but rich soil. It's was planted with "super duper" water crystals and plenty of water and liquid fert post planting, our weather recently has also been prime palm weather! You can see it has copped some hot sun ( it was dry then too ), I am hoping it will adapt and it certainly seems to be doing just that. The newest open leaf shows zero burn.

I have high hopes for mine ! Yours is better though!
