April 7 General Meeting - South Florida Palm Society

Dr. Chad Husby, Collections Manager and Botanist at Montgomery Botanical Center, will present the program at our April 7 meeting. Chad will give an illustrated presentation about recent plant exploration in the Dominican Republic, highlighting the localities visited and the plants collected, including Reinhardtia paiewonskiana, Sabal domingensis, Zombia antillarum, Coccothrinax boschiana, Clavija domingensis, and Plumeria magna. The expedition team visited many localities throughout the country, from mountains to deserts, and brought nearly 200 new species into cultivation for South Florida. In addition, Chad will describe the process of plant collecting in the 21st century. Meeting time is 7:30 at Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden, 10901 Old Cutler Rd., Coral Gables.
